Wathena Fall Festival: Embracing the Seasons Delights

            As the days grow shorter and a cool breeze sweeps through the air, the enchanting Wathena Fall Festival emerges on the horizon. This eagerly anticipated event, set to take place Labor Day weekend starting on Friday September 1st, promises a splendid celebration of our little town of Wathena. There will be plenty of food and activities for all ages. Music will be played, cornhole bags will be tossed, and pigs will be greased, so mark your calendars and get into the spirit of the season!

 

Gear Up with Legendary Threads: The Wathena Fall Festival T-shirts

      Attention, fellow gamers! Prepare to upgrade your wardrobe with the most epic gear of the season. Introducing Wathena Fall Festival’s very own T-shirt based off this season’s theme “Level Up.” Your avatar is a fashion statement, so customize your character IRL and up your Wathena pride stats while also getting a +1 to swag. So, remember to preorder your T-shirts ahead of time at city hall.

There are 2 carnival ticket options for the festival: MEGA pass and/or a 4-hour session.

Pre-Sale MEGA - $55 - MEGA tickets will be sold for $60 at the festival and are good for the entire weekend.

One 4-hour session - $25 – the available time slots for the 4-hour sessions are as follows:

  • Friday 6pm-10pm
  • Saturday 1pm-5pm or 6pm-10pm
  • Sunday 1pm-5pm

American Pride and Chicken Dinner: The Festivities Begin

            September 1st marks the beginning of the festival with Opening Ceremonies taking place on the main stage at 5:30PM; The Star-Spangled Banner will play, Honor Guard will be performed by the American Legion, and Mayor John Cluck will provide a welcoming statement to start off this year’s festival. A “winner winner, fried chicken dinner” will be served on the east side of City Hall by DCSW along with all the booths, carnival rides and petting zoo opening for the night. Immediately following opening ceremonies is the Baby Crawling Contest. Music will be provided by Jacob Davis and Bill Mears intermittently between events, and at 10pm the carnival and booths close for the night.

 

Parades and Cornhole: This is where the fun LEVELS UP!

            The festivities of September the 2nd will start at 7am for Biscuits & Gravy provided by the Mason’s at the stage. You best rest up and fill your stamina bar because up next is the FCA 5k and 10K run/walk. Registration begins at 7am with the race starting at 8am, along with a kid’s Fun Run. Later in the morning there will be a Tractor Show followed by Childrens Parades at 11:30am, which will be LEVEL UP themed. Closely following at 12pm, the carnival, petting zoo, and booths open for the day. If you need some heat resistance to counter the suns rays, look no further than to the Hamster Wheel Snow Cones opening around high noon.

How much have you lost in a game of Cornhole? Well now’s your chance to be a BIG SHOT and compete in the Corn Hole Tournament and become legend. If luck be a lady tonight, pray she gives out some of it when you enter the Pie/Dessert Baking Contest drop off point is at City Hall between 3-4pm.

 If your party should need some rest from these wearisome quests, then stop by the City Hall at 5pm for some pulled pork brought to you by the RHS Cheerleaders. Following at 6pm is the Lynn Rice Memorial Pie/Dessert Auction. The last event of the night will take place at 8:30pm and will be 2 hours of dueling pianos. And with 10:30pm approaching, the carnival and booths will close until tomorrow.

 

Man vs. Beast (The Greased Pig)

The morning of September 3rd will start off with the Knights of Columbus pancake feed at the Catholic Church. Followed by the Motorcycle and Car Show at 10am. At 12pm the carnival, petting zoo, and booths will open. The Grand Parade will be taking place at 2pm, preparation and lining up will be 45 min prior at 1:15pm. In the evening there will be special presentations, drawings, raffles, parade winner announcement as well as the registration for the Greased Pig contest at 4:30. The last event, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the final boss: The Greased Pig contest. Wrestle with the wretched beast at 5pm. At 6pm the carnival will close.
